Jimi Hendrix’s Voodoo Child has been named the greatest guitar riff of all time, 41 years after it was recorded, in a poll by website Music Radar.
TOP FIVE ROCK RIFFS
1. Voodoo Child – Jimi Hendrix
2. Sweet Child o’Mine – Guns N’ Roses
3. Whole Lotta Love – Zed Zeppelin
4. Smoke On The Water – Deep Purple
5. Layla – Derek and the Dominos
The only tracks released in the last decade that made the cut were Muse’s Plug in Baby, at 11, and The White Stripes grimy Seven Nation Army at 15. The bone crunching AC/DC classic back in Black landed at number six, followed by Metallica’s Enter Sandman and the chiming riff of The Beatles Day Tripper at eight. At number nine was Nirvana’s four chord wonder Smells Like Teen Spirit, while The Rolling Stones (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction rounded off the top 10.
